- ASEAN was established on August 8, 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand to accelerate economic growth, social progress, and cultural development and to promote peace and security in the region.
- ASEAN Charter entered into force on December 16, 2008.
Members (10): Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam.
Observers (2): Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste.
ASEAN Plus Three: China, Japan, South Korea.
Secretary-General: Lim Jock Hoi (Brunei Darussalam-Since January 2018)
Secretariat HQ: Jakarta, Indonesia.
