Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS)
Information related to Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Organization:
- It was established on December 8,1991 by the former Soviet Union’s states to cooperate its
members’ policies regarding their economies, foreign relation, defense, immigration
policies, environment protection and law enforcement. It was formed following
the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.Its charter was adopted on January 1993.
- Members (11):Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russian
Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan(As per CIS Website).
Georgia left the bloc in 2009.
- Executive Secretary: Sergei Lebedev (Russian)(October 5,2007-present)
- Headquarters: Minsk, Belarus.
